Fifth Annual Hug Detroit Day

Part of being a beauty queen is involving oneself in a cause that you believe in. I truly believe in the upliftment of my community. On August 27th I was honored to be a singer in the Celebrity Community Choir for the fifth annual Hug Detroit Day.

Singers like myself came from far and wide to lend our voices to our precious city, in solidarity in song. As we sang our black national anthem, "Lift Every Voice and Sing", we held hands and ended the song(s) showcasing love-the love we have for our ancestors, love for our city, and love for one another.

The Hug Detroit festivities are put on by Detroit's own dynamic diva, Sky Covington. Not only is Sky a Detroit resident, she's also received countless vocal awards. This year, Hug Detroit received a resolution from the Detroit City Council, and was presented by none other than Detroit's own man of comedy, Mike Bonner.

Congratulations to Sky and the entire Hug Detroit staff for an awesome job engaging and uplifting the city year after year!

Not only were there many on hand just to spread love in the city and let those in Detroit know we are love, the event included hundreds of vendors and various family friendly activities. From face painting to making nutritious meals with sweet potatoes, you name it, Hug detroit had it at this fun occasion.

The feelings of communal joy were felt by all present. We hope to see you next year at the sixth annual Hug Detroit day!
